Raio Laser is an online comics revue from Brazil, similar in nature to The Comics Journal, that I have been reading since I was a teenager. The webmasters asked me a while back to make a new banner image for them, which I happily obliged. Since Raio Laser doesn’t focus specifically in any genre of comic book, from indie graphic novels to super hero issues and European albums, I wanted to make an image that focused on the experience of reading comics, and maybe appeal to something nostalgic within the readers. With that approach in mind, I managed to sneak in a couple of references to some of my favorite comic book characters and IPs, which is always fun to do.
